10. Sendlingur /Purple Sandpiper (Calidris maritima)

Þessi harðgerði litli fugl dvelur á Íslandi allt árið, jafnvel yfir veturinn. Hann verpir 3–4 eggjum á jörðinni. Karlfugl og kvenfugl líta eins út. Hann er ekki í raun fjólublár (frekar grábrúnn), svo sá sem nefndi þá hefur greinilega þurft gleraugu.

This tough little bird stays in Iceland all year, even in winter. It lays 3 to 4 eggs on the ground. The male and female look the same. They are not really purple (more like greyish brown), so whoever named them clearly needed glasses.
