Þennan fugl má auðveldlega þekkja á löngum appelsínugulum goggi, svörtum og hvítum fjaðrum. Hann verpir 2–4 eggjum. Tjaldur flýgur til Vestur-Evrópu á veturna, en nokkrir halda sig á Íslandi.  Hann er nokkuð snjall leikari, ef hætta steðjar að hreiðrinu, þykist hann vera vængbrotinn til að blekkja rándýr. This bird is easy to spot with its long orange beak and black and white feathers. It lays 2 to 4 eggs. Many fly to Western Europe in winter, but some stay in Iceland. If danger comes near the nest, it pretends to have a broken wing to trick predators. Smart actor!
